About The Course

Tobian Language School offers a wide range of Portuguese classes. If you need to learn Portuguese for school, business or because you are traveling: Tobian Language School has an option to suit your needs. With our comprehensive and international group of teachers we can help you with all kinds of lessons. We offer both European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.

We offer both private and group lessons in small groups of 2-3 students. Our teachers use Skype/Zoom/Google Meet and each lesson is 60 minutes.

Many of our teachers are bi- or even trilingual so if you prefer some explanation in your native language, we can get you the right teacher.

Usually we work with packages of 20 lessons. Before you commit, we will arrange an intro chat with the teacher where you can make personalised arrangements.

Our classes are classified by 3 different courses:

General Portuguese

Business Portuguese

What's Included In The Portuguese Language Courses ?

We offer Portuguese courses in all different levels from A1 to C2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language ability. It describes language ability on a six-point scale, from A1 for beginners, up to C2 for those who have mastered a language.

Portuguese (Português) is a Romance language, spread worldwide in the 15th and 16th centuries as Portugal created the first and the longest lived modern-world colonial and commercial empire (1415-1975). Portuguese, ranked fifth among world languages in number of native speakers, is also widely spoken or studied as a second language in many other countries. Portuguese is estimated to have 232 million native speakers and about 258 million speakers in total.

The “Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa” (“Community of Portuguese Language Countries”), an organization of countries where Portuguese is widely spoken, has nine member countries: Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe. .

Because of historic ties, Portuguese is also widely spoken in Sri Lanka, Goa, India and Macau, China. So you might find yourself needing your Portuguese skills in Europe, South America, Africa or even Asia! In addition, Portuguese is also an official language of the European Union, Mercosul and the African Union. The Portuguese language is gaining popularity in Africa, Asia, and South America as a second language for study

General Portuguese

If you need to improve some or many parts of your Portuguese, our experienced professional (native) speakers can assist you. Lessons can have a personalised focus on grammar, speaking, pronunciation, listening comprehension or writing skills. Together we can concentrate on areas that are most important to you. We offer both European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.

Tobian Language School offers specialised lessons to prepare students who need to pass language proficiency exams including CALPE (Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira), CELPE-Bras and TELC. This course is ideal for people who need to quickly pass CALPE, CELPE-Bras or TELC for their visa, job or university entry.

FAQs About Portuguese Language Courses

Are all lessons online?

Yes, all lessons are live online lessons with Zoom/Skype. Each lesson is 60 minutes. In some special cases we have face-to-face lessons available in the Netherlands.

Do you have lessons for children?

Yes, we have experience with teaching children. We offer lessons for all age groups that can operate a computer.

Can I choose when I want to take my lessons?

Yes, we are flexible regarding the schedule. We can provide lessons during the morning, afternoon, evening and even on the weekends.

How many lessons does it take to finish one level?

From our experience it highly depends on the language, pace, motivation, commitment and skills of the student. In general we use the following reference for the European languages:

A1 level: 20 – 30 lessons.

A2 level: 30 – 40 lessons.

B1 level: 40 lessons.

For B2, C1 and C2 the hourly volume is variable.

Do you provide study materials, exams and a certificate?

Yes, we provide digital study materials for the classes. At the end of the course we provide an exam and a certificate for our students.
